In the US found a pickup truck with a range of 2.4 million km

A pickup truck with 2.4 million km (1.5 million miles) has been found in the US. The car is still used every day as a workhorse: it pulls residential vehicles, boats, horse trailers and other heavy utensils.

The 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 survivable copy was told by the Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk YouTube channel. Its current owner Harry bought the car new. Moreover, he never stopped by the dealer for maintenance: he did all the work on his own.

The old Ram still looks good for its age and mileage. American cars of those years were not famous for their anti-corrosion properties. And although rust still appeared on some elements, in general this is more than normal. Keep in mind that the owner of the pickup truck lives in northern Oregon, where a lot of road chemicals are used in the winter (in the southern states, the situation in terms of corrosion is much more favorable).

True, to call this Dodge "eternal" still does not work. It no longer has the original engine and transmission. They have been replaced several times. According to Harry, the engines were rejected mainly due to increased oil consumption. Sometimes the owner put "contract" internal combustion engines with low mileage, sometimes he carried out major repairs on his own. His current motor has already run 800 thousand kilometers.

With transmissions, the American was even less lucky. He periodically experienced problems with stars and bearings. Once he had to travel more than a thousand kilometers with only one working gear - the fourth. He overhauled his NV4500 five-speed manual 12 times before finally switching to the more successful six-speed G56.

There is a funny story about the nameplate of the Ram 5500. In fact, this version did not exist in 1997. In 1999, Ford released the F-550, which had a higher payload capacity. To annoy the owners of such cars, who felt special, Harry put the Ram 5500 badge on his Ram 3500.

Once he even played a trick on a mechanic at a Dodge dealership, where he arrived for some trifle as part of a recall campaign. The employee was surprised as he had never seen or heard of the Ram 5500 version. Harry stated that in 1997 Dodge produced a pilot batch of such "heavy" pickups and got one experimental sample.

When asked if he would like to replace his battered pickup truck with a new one, the American answered in the negative. According to him, in this car he can do everything with his own hands. He just likes to poke around in his car, and modern models are too complicated for this: a large number of electronics, complex components and "machines" will not allow such work to be done in his garage.
