BYD is preparing a new model that will challenge the Tesla Model S

BYD

The BYD brand sold 461,399 vehicles in its home market of China in 2019 (data from Automotive News) and, despite a significant decline in sales of electric vehicles, which is associated with a reduction in subsidies from the state, the company is actively working on new electric models.

One of them is the Han EV sedan, which will later compete with the luxury Tesla Model S. BYD has released the first photos of the promising model. The grille of the electric car is made in the form of a decorative element in the lower part of the front bumper, Audi-style headlights and a semicircular hood also attract attention. On the side of the car, you can see an abundance of chrome on window frames, mirrors, moldings and sills, and silver rims with thin spokes were matched to match them. The length of the car is 4950 mm, and its aerodynamic coefficient is 0.23 Cx (for the Tesla Model S - 4978 mm and 0.24 Cx, respectively).

According to Carscoops, in the base version the car will be equipped with a rear electric motor with a capacity of 218 hp, the twin-engine version will be able to develop 268 hp, and the range is expected in the region of 450 km.

In addition to the fully electric model, the Han PHEV hybrid version will also be available. She has a 189-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo engine under the hood, which will work with three electric motors. The total power of the power plant will be 476 hp, up to 100 km / h the car can accelerate in just 3.9 seconds. It is unlikely that it will be able to overtake the all-wheel drive Tesla Model S P100D Han PHEV, but it is quite possible to leave behind the rear-wheel drive versions of the American electric sedan.

The BYD Han EV and Han PHEV will be showcased at the Beijing Auto Show from April 21 to 30.
