In the new convertible 4-Series BMW returned to the awning top

The range of sports BMW 4-Series of the new generation G22 has been replenished with the Convertible modification, that is, a convertible.

If the “four” with an open body of the previous generation F33 had a hard folding top, then the new model has a classic cloth one. It is 40% lighter than a rigid one and takes up less usable space from the trunk. With the top folded down, the trunk volume of the car is 300 liters, with the top up - 385. The roof has a rear window, it folds and unfolds using a servo drive in 18 seconds at speeds up to 50 km / h. As standard, the awning is black; for an extra charge, you can order fabric stitching with metallic threads.

Except for the open top, the body of the convertible is basically identical to the 4-Series coupe. However, the engineers still had to further strengthen it so that the rigidity relative to the coupe did not decrease. In particular, sill reinforcements, a central tunnel and a floor in the rear have been added. Also improved insulation in the area of the hood, exhaust system and bottom.

The convertible will be offered in four versions. Petrol - 420i (with a 2.0-liter engine producing 184 hp), 430i (also 2.0 liter, but 258 hp) and M440i xDrive (3.0 liter, 374 hp, full drive), diesel - 420d (2.0 l, 190 hp). All variants, except for the top one, have an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, the M440i xDrive is equipped with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. The M440i and the diesel engine also have a 48-volt starter-alternator, which improves the vehicle's dynamics during starting and acceleration, and also reduces fuel consumption.

In Europe, sales of the 4-Series Convertible will start in the next "convertible" season, that is, in March 2021.
