BMW introduced upgraded versions of the X5 (family) and X6 (youth) platform crossovers. Recall that the cars in the current generations of the G05 and G06 have been produced since 2018 and 2020, respectively, that is, they were updated in the fifth and third years of life.
The exterior of the BMW X5 was refreshed with little money - without touching the steel stamped elements, since stamping equipment is very expensive. In the front part, the bumper group and block headlights were replaced, and lights with different graphics were used at the back.
The headlights have become even narrower - their height has decreased by 35 mm. The reshaped front bumper features functional vertical slots in the corners that improve "aerodynamics around the wheels". Also noteworthy are the sharp edges and silver U-shaped piping at the bottom. As an option, matrix LED headlights are offered, in which the light elements are divided into sections - and each automatically adjusts to current road conditions, ensuring maximum beam efficiency.
The X6 coupe-crossover comes standard with the M Sport styling package with sporty bumpers. This model also has narrower headlights and vertical slots in the corners of the bumper.
In the EU, both upgraded models will be offered in xDrive40i, xDrive30d and M60i xDrive variants. The xDrive40i is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 380 hp. and a torque of 540 Nm, the xDrive30d has a 3.0-liter turbodiesel with a return of 298 hp. and 670 Nm. The M60i is equipped with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 530 hp. and 750 Nm. All engines are combined with an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, complemented by a mild hybrid system with a 48-volt starter-alternator, which helps save fuel and reduce harmful emissions. Personally for the X5, a hybrid version xDrive50e with the possibility of recharging from an external network is offered. It has a 3.0-liter gasoline engine with 313 hp. and a torque of 450 Nm is combined with an electric motor with a return of 197 hp. and 280 Nm. In addition, a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 25.7 kWh is installed.
In North America, a similar range, but the basic version for the X5 is sDrive40i with mono-drive, that is, with rear-wheel drive.
In the cabin, the key change is the instrument panel and media system screen combined into a digital cluster. The diagonal of the shield is 12.3 inches, the display of the media system is 14.9 inches. They are made under solid glass, and for the convenience of the driver, the screens are slightly curved.
As an option for the X5 / X6, the advanced semi-autopilot Highway Assistant has become available, which provides fully autonomous control on country roads at speeds up to 137 km / h. The driver at such moments can remove his hands from the steering wheel. The Parking Assistant Professional function allows you to record the path to a parking space and play it back automatically without human intervention. This means that further from the parking lot, the driver can call the car using a mobile application.
Sales of the updated X5 / X6 will start in the spring.
Modernization will come to the sporty M variants a little later.
