BMW cars started warning owners about cameras on the roads (but it costs money)

BMW

BMW has launched a new Traffic Camera Information feature as part of its ConnectedDrive package that alerts drivers to the location of traffic cameras. The German company has begun offering this technology for some 2021 model year vehicles. First, customers will be able to take advantage of a free trial period of 3 months, and then they will have to pay $25 for 15 months.

The system is able to warn about approaching cameras that monitor speed and driving through red lights. It not only receives information from public sources, but also uses data from radar and laser detectors.

If a camera is installed along the route, the vehicle will alert the driver with a message on the digital instrument cluster. You can also display notifications on the head-up display, if available.

Traffic Camera Information is based on mapping services from HERE Technologies and Cedar Electronics.
