Volkswagen first published a photo of the second-generation Phaeton executive sedan - the car was developed in the mid-2010s, but at the last moment the project was cut down due to the fact that in the fall of 2015 VW got into a large-scale scandal with understating diesel engine emissions.
It was decided to reveal the appearance of the failed Phaeton II in connection with the 20th anniversary since the debut of the first generation sedan.
Phaeton II was created on the MLB Evo platform, which is used for the Audi A8, Volkswagen Touareg and some other large concern cars. At the same time, in terms of body proportions and the solution of the rear window line, Phaeton II is very similar to its predecessor model. However, its exterior is more modern and carefully crafted in terms of styling details. The Phaeton II was to get full LED headlights and taillights, as well as a wide chrome grille.
The author of the appearance of the canceled sedan is Josef Kaban, who was the chief designer of Skoda Auto from 2008 to 2017 (the Czech company is part of VW).
They built a single demonstration sample of the VW Phaeton II, they do not intend to revive the project, since large sedans are no longer in demand.
Recall that the first generation Volkswagen Phaeton was produced in 2002-2016.
