Volkswagen showed the first image of the future flagship electric sedan

Volkswagen

Volkswagen has published a teaser for the first time with a promising electric electric sedan that will sit at the top of the brand's model line and feature advanced autonomous driving technologies. The project was named Trinity, which comes from the Latin word trinitas and means "trinity".

It is difficult to judge the appearance of the future flagship from the published picture, however, it can be noted that the lines of its body almost completely repeat those of the Arteon coupe-liftback, whose sales in Russia in 2020 lasted about six months.

The future electric sedan in the future will be equipped with a fourth level autonomous driving system. According to the SAE classification (Society of Automotive Engineers, Society of Automotive Engineers), such an “autopilot” has a “high level of automation”, it does not need a reserve in the form of a person if it operates in the mode provided by the developers. However, from the start of sales in 2026, buyers will have access to the 2+ level system. In fact, this is the same thing that American Tesla has been offering for several years now.

There is no information about the dimensions of the Trinity yet. But judging by the fact that Volkswagen is positioning the car as a flagship, its length will be more than five meters (like the Phaeton fuel sedan discontinued in 2016).

The novelty will be built, according to Autocar, on the upgraded MEB proprietary electric modular platform, which became the basis for the ID.3 hatchback and ID.4 crossover (their production began last year). Volkswagen decided to abandon the prospects for using the more progressive PPE bogie developed by Audi-Porsche, as this will negatively affect the cost of models.

Sales of the Volkswagen Trinity will begin in 2026, production earlier. In December 2020, Automotive News, citing a source close to VW board member Stefan Weil, reported that this would happen in 2025.

Recall that in September, the Volkswagen concern announced plans to bypass Tesla by 2023 in terms of the volume of electric vehicles produced.
