The new Golf has a version of the "station wagon"

Volkswagen

The eighth generation Volkswagen Golf in the "five-door hatchback" body has been on sale since December 2019. Ten months later, Volkswagen added a practical station wagon to the range, traditionally referred to as Variant.

From the nose to the B-pillar, the cargo-passenger car is similar to the hatchback, but then the body is completely original here. The overall length of the station wagon is 4630 mm, 66 mm longer than that of a similar modification of the Golf VII. Regarding the hatchback, the Variant has increased not only the rear overhang, but also the wheelbase, it is 2680 mm - 44 mm more than the base car of the family. The whole increase went to the rear passengers - they have more legroom.

The volume of the trunk relative to the station wagon of the previous sample has increased slightly - by 5 liters, that is, it now reaches 611 liters. In the underground there is another 22 additional liters of usable volume. With the rear seats folded down, the cargo area is 1,642 liters. Of course, there are hinges for the trunk, sockets for 12 and 230 volts, as well as the function of opening the door without hands - by pressing the lever under the bumper with your foot, the servo opens the door itself.

Together with the basic version of the station wagon, the Alltrack cross-version was shown - it has a body kit made of unpainted plastic and increased ground clearance. The Alltrack is only available with the 4Motion all-wheel drive system and can tow a trailer weighing up to 2,000 kg.

The range of station wagon engines is the same as that of the hatchback - these are turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines with power from 110 to 150 hp. The plug-in hybrid setup offered on the hatchback in the GTE version will not be available immediately for the station wagon.
