New Volkswagen Amarok - no more secrets

Volkswagen

Volkswagen introduced the second generation of the Amarok frame pickup truck - since last year, the concern has been fueling interest in the model with promotional photos and videos, so the premiere for the public has become long-awaited.

The second Amarok is another fruit of the collaboration between VW and Ford Motor. The novelty is based on the latest Ford Ranger, which debuted in November 2021. The Volkswagen pickup truck is unified with the “donor” in terms of frame chassis, suspensions, power structure of the cabin, door frames, windows, side mirrors, external handles.

Of the external panels from Ford, only the roof was taken unchanged, the rest of the Amarok is original, forming the exterior in the corporate style of the German brand. Even the visual elements of the doors are their own, although the configuration of the stamping is similar to the Ranger.

The radiator grille and angular block headlights form an integral composition, to which the X-shaped central segment of the front bumper adjoins, which is distinguished from the rest of the array in a contrasting color (black or silver). The taillights have a C-shaped configuration and a voluminous diffuser, in the folding tailgate there is a stamping in the form of the Amarok lettering in large print.

The pickup truck debuted in one body modification - with a two-row four-door five-seater cab. The overall length, width and height of such a machine are 5350, 1910 and 1888 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 3270 mm. That is, in length and wheelbase, the new Amarok is slightly larger than the UAZ Pickup, but in width and height it is comparable to it.

For the Amarok II, two types of all-wheel drive will be offered: a cheaper option with a connected front axle, and a more expensive one with permanent all-wheel drive. Sel ect markets will also offer 2-wheel drive versions with a rear-wheel drive axle.

The carrying capacity of the machine is 1200 kg, the maximum weight of the towed trailer is 3500 kg. The internal dimensions of the platform are adapted for loading euro pallets.

The range of new engines includes four turbodiesels and one gasoline engine, all taken fr om the Ford arsenal, their line will depend on the specific market.

Diesel options:
2.0 engine with 150, 170 or 209 hp
motor 3.0, V6, return 238 hp
The only gasoline version involves a 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost turbo unit with a capacity of 302 hp

All motors over 200 hp are combined only with a 10-speed "automatic". Less productive units work in conjunction with "mechanics" (five or six speeds depending on the engine) or a 6-band automatic transmission.

It is alleged that all-wheel drive modifications are capable of storming a ford up to 800 mm deep.

Inside, there is a digital instrument panel with a diagonal of 8 or 12 inches, depending on the configuration, and a media system with a dimension of 10 or 12 inches.

The new Amarok will be offered in five configurations - Standard, Life, Style, PanAmericana and Aventura. The last two are positioned as a premium class, one of the versions will be "road", the other - for extreme off road.

The dimensions of the wheels of the model vary from 17 to 21 inches, depending on the configuration. The new Amarok also has more than 20 driver assistance systems (including adaptive cruise control), matrix LED headlights (on expensive trim levels) and a premium Harman Kardon audio system.

Production of cars for the global market is being established at the VW Silverton plant in Pretoria, South Africa. The start of sales is scheduled for the end of this year.
