Toyota Motor introduced a sports version of the Yaris Cross subcompact crossover - a new modification of the GR Sport created by the Toyota Gazoo Racing division, it differs from the standard version of the model by improvements to the chassis, body and interior.
The body of the GR Sport is reinforced relative to the regular Yaris Cross with three additional cross members under the bottom - this increased torsional rigidity and, as a result, improved stability and sharpness of driving on winding roads.
The landing of the crossover in the sport version is lowered by 10 mm, for this purpose original springs and shock absorbers were used, as well as Falken FK510 SUV tires. The electric power steering has been retuned for a sportier driving experience.
In the hybrid version, the car received its own power plant control unit and a different drive shaft. It is alleged that the response to pressing the gas pedal is reduced and acceleration dynamics is improved.
Outside, the Yaris Cross GR Sport features custom-style 10-spoke alloy wheels, a large honeycomb grille, two decorative inlays in the corners of the air intakes, special nameplates front and rear, an imitation diffuser in the rear bumper, and bright red brake calipers.
The novelty is completed with sports front seats with extra dense padding and developed lateral support. The upholstery of all seats is combined - from a combination of nubuck (suede) and artificial leather. Other interior highlights include a sporty three-spoke steering wheel, aluminum pedal caps, GR emblem key fob, leather-wrapped transmission selector.
In Japan, sales of the Toyota Yaris GR Sport will start on August 8, the new modification will be offered at a price of 2,367,000 to 2,750,000 yen, depending on the configuration. This is the sixth car in the GR Sport line offered by Toyota at home (the others are Hilux GR Sport, Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport, CH-R GR Sport, Corolla GR Sport, Daihatsu Copen GR Sport).
Recall that Toyota Yaris Cross has been produced since 2020, this model is built on a single platform with Yaris hatchbacks - TNGA-B, but has a completely original five-door body. The overall length of the Yaris Cross is 4180 mm, ground clearance is 170 mm. The crossover is equipped with a gasoline or hybrid power plant. In the first case, a 1.5-liter unit with a capacity of 120 hp is installed, combined with a stepless variator. The hybrid version involves a combination of a 91-horsepower 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor with a return of 59 kW (80 hp), the total characteristic is 116 hp.
The Yaris Cross has front-wheel drive, but for an extra charge you can order the E-Four system, with which a 5.3 hp electric motor driving the rear axle is installed. and a torque of 52 Nm. It turns on automatically when poor traction is detected - if it is wet, snowy or covered with sand. E-Four only works during acceleration and at low speeds. In the mono-drive version, the rear suspension is a semi-independent beam, the 4x4 version uses an independent multi-link design.
