Toyota Motor told major suppliers on April 12 that it intends to cut global production in May to around 700,000 vehicles, 10% below original plans.
The main reason is the instability of supply chains due to the Russian special operation in Ukraine and new outbreaks of COVID-19 in China.
At the same time, even taking into account the reduction in plans, production will exceed the figure for May 2021, when just over 670,000 vehicles were produced. Of the 700,000 vehicles, about 200,000 are planned to be assembled at the company's Japanese plants, 500,000 at sites in other countries.
Toyota originally intended to produce an average of 800,000 vehicles per month during the second quarter of 2022 (April to June).
Toyota allowed further adjustments to production plans depending on the stability of the supply of components.
Recall that in March, Toyota suspended Japanese factories because of the earthquake and shortages of semiconductors.
