Toyota Motor will unscheduled stop the work of 18 assembly lines at 11 car factories in Japan from March 21 to March 23 due to a powerful earthquake that occurred on the night of March 17. This was reported on the company's website.
The downtime is related to damage caused to some of Toyota's suppliers.
The Japanese company is already experiencing a systematic shortage of components amid outbreaks of coronavirus at the enterprises of counterparty companies. Because of this, Toyota periodically suspends factories in March and April.
On March 16, a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.3 struck off the northeast coast of Japan's main island of Honshu. The epicenter of the tremors was located off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, the focus lay at a depth of about 60 km under the ocean floor. Some time later, a second earthquake of magnitude 5.6 occurred in the northeast of the country.
Due to the impact of the elements on several railway lines, the movement of trains, including high-speed express trains, was interrupted. At the Fukushima-2 nuclear power plant, pumps in the first and third reactors were temporarily suspended. No increase in background radiation was recorded.
