The Toyota Mirai II has set the Guinness World Record for longest range on a single gas station for a hydrogen fuel cell car. The sedan covered 1360 km during the race in California, USA.
The trip took place on August 23 and 24, however, the presentation of the corresponding certificate to the leaders of Toyota Motor took place only the other day. Guinness World Records judge Michael Emprik confirmed that the car's neck was sealed, so it was impossible to secretly refuel the sedan on the road.
The route ran along public roads. The crew, consisting of two professional hypermilers (that is, people who set such records), drove along the California tracks. On the morning of August 24, they even got stuck in a traffic jam, so the conditions of the trip cannot be called laboratory and out of touch with reality.
By the end of the journey, Mirai had used up a total of 5.65 kg of hydrogen and had driven close to 12 hydrogen stations along the route (without stopping by them to refuel, of course).
Recall that Mirai II entered the market in 2020. The length, width and height of the hydrogen car are 4975, 1885 and 1470 mm respectively, the wheelbase is 2920 mm. The car is driven by a 174 hp electric motor. The motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery, the energy for which is generated by an electrochemical reaction in hydrogen fuel cells. The gas itself is stored in three cylinders. The official power reserve on one gas station at Mirai II is 850 km.
