Toyota Highlander stripped of V6

Toyota

Toyota Motor has unveiled the 2023 Highlander mid-size crossover. The main change is under the hood: the car has lost the 3.5-liter petrol V6 model 2GR-FKS and instead received a new 4-cylinder 2.4-liter turbo unit T24A-FTS turbo.

The power of the new motor is 265 hp, torque - 419 Nm. Relative to the old V6 in its North American incarnation, the first characteristic is reduced by 11%, but the second has increased by 17%. At the same time, it should be noted that in the version for the Russian Federation, the 3.5-liter V6 Highlander was derated to 249 hp, that is, the T24A-FTS turbo has a higher power characteristic relative to this version.

Toyota notices that the gas consumption of a crossover with a turbo engine is at the level of a car with a V6 (9.8 l / 100 km), but the dynamics are improved and the amount of harmful emissions is reduced (including through the introduction of a start-stop system). With the new heart, the machine produces 50% less nitrogen oxides NOx and carbon dioxide CO2.

The gearbox remains the same - an 8-speed "automatic". The drive of the crossover is full.

Highlander with a 2.4-liter engine can tow a load weighing up to 2.3 tons.

In North America, the car is also available with a hybrid power plant, including a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and a pair of electric motors: this modification has no changes, the power is the same - 243 hp.

Toyota Highlander in the version for the USA and Canada received improvements in trim levels. The expensive Limited and Platinum now have a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster (previously there was a combination with a 7-inch display). The screen of the media system was increased to the same dimension (it was 8-inch). In a more convenient place - in front of the media display - they moved the wireless charging of smartphones.

In North America, the updated Highlander will go on sale in the summer of 2022.
