A new compact inexpensive crossover Urban Cruiser Hyryder (Urban Cruiser Hayrider) has appeared in the Toyota Motor range - the model was presented on July 1 in India, where its production will be located.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder was created jointly with Suzuki Motor and is a close relative of the well-known in Russia Suzuki Vitara of the LY generation. The machines are unified in terms of platform and elements of the power frame of the body.

The overall length, width, height of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder are 4365 mm, 1795 and 1635 mm, respectively. Wheelbase - 2600 mm. In fact, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder is a direct competitor to the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos crossovers, which are very popular in India.

Inside, there is a digital instrument panel, a media system with a 9-inch display and a three-spoke steering wheel.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will be produced in two versions. The base is a mild hybrid, including a 1.5-liter Suzuki K15C gasoline engine + 48-volt starter-alternator, system power - 103 hp, torque - 137 Nm. It is combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-band “automatic” with a torque converter. A step up option will be equipped with a “parallel hybrid” system, made up of a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle Toyota gasoline engine, an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery and a CVT. Characteristics of the internal combustion engine - 92 hp and 122 Nm, electric motor - 79 hp and 141 Nm, total - 115 hp

The first of the listed modifications can have front or all-wheel drive (at the choice of the buyer), the second assumes only front-wheel drive.

In the Toyota product line, the novelty will take a position one step above the 4-meter Indian Urban Cruiser crossover, which is a badge-engineered version of the 2016 Toyota Vitara Brezza and will be produced for some time.

The Hyryder is being built at the Toyota Motor plant in Bidadi, south India. Sales will start in August, prices have not yet been announced. If sales of the model in the Indian market are successful, it may well be brought to other developing countries.
