The consumer magazine Consumer Reports ranked the safest cars for rear passengers. The resource examined models that are now sold new in the US market.
The rating is based on six criteria:
the presence of a reminder of unfastened seat belts,
headrest design,
the presence of advanced head restraints with protection against whiplash,
the convenience of fastening child seats,
ease of installation of the booster,
passenger warnings.
“When evaluating the rear seats, you need to take into account the passengers who use them - these are children, teenagers, adults, the elderly. Our analysis showed that many automakers are not paying enough attention to rear passenger safety devices,” says Emily Thomas, automotive safety engineer at Consumer Reports.
