At the end of April, Toyota Motor introduced a new modification of the Supra rear-wheel drive sports car with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Japanese concern emphasized in a press release: this is a completely new unit, created specifically for the Supra. But it turned out that the company was cunning - the media found out which gearbox was used in the Toyota sports car.
The “mechanics” for the Supra are taken from the arsenal of the BMW Z4 platform with Toyota. In a German car, the unit with the GS6L40LZ index is combined with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder BMW B48 engine with a capacity of 255 hp. and a torque of 400 Nm. However, the gearbox was modified for Toyota, it has its own GS6L50TZ index and is only compatible with the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder BMW B58 engine with 382 hp. and 499 Nm. In the GS6 index, it means that this is a 6-speed manual gearbox, the letter Z indicates the manufacturer - ZF. According to The Drive, the difference between the L40L and L50T lies in the set of gears and the presence of the IMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) system in the Toyota variant.
Supra with "mechanics" has a main pair with a gear ratio of 3.46 instead of 3.15 for the coupe with "automatic". Thanks to this, the new modification has a sharper acceleration. IMT "optimizes engine torque when upshifting" and also "ensures smooth operation" when downshifting. This feature can be forcibly disabled.
