Nissan and Mitsubishi show off joint electric kei cars

Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors have partnered to create new all-electric kei cars developed through a joint venture called NMKV. New from Nissan is called Sakura, from MMC - eK Cross EV. Both cars were presented at a special event.

The design of the models is based on a purely electric platform, which in principle does not involve the use of internal combustion engines, and therefore is distinguished by the most dense and rational layout of the power plant units.

The front wheels are driving - electric vehicles are equipped with an MM48 motor. By the way, he is known for the hybrid Nissan Note e-Power 4WD, which is used to drive the rear axle.

On Sakura and eK Cross EV, the engine is installed in the front, respectively, the front wheels are driving.

The maximum motor power is 47 kW (64 hp), achieved in the range of 2302-10455 rpm, the maximum torque is 195 Nm in the range of 0-2302 rpm.

The traction lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 20 kWh and is mounted under the floor of the body, which lowers the vehicle's center of gravity. The power reserve with a full charge reaches 180 km - this is enough, because, according to statistics, 80% of kei car owners in Japan drive no more than 50 km per day. A full recharge of the battery pack from a regular household network will take 8 hours. From the "fast" station, the energy reserve from zero to 80% can be replenished in 40 minutes.

The proportion of weight distribution between the axles is 56/44, and the suspension of the cars is set up for a comfortable and quiet ride.

However, the power plant has four preset driving modes: Normal (normal), Eco (reduces engine power and, as a result, energy consumption), Sport (makes the gas pedal sharper) and innovation pedal operation mode / e-Pedal (acceleration and deceleration is carried out only by working with the gas pedal).

The standard configuration also includes traction control, which on slippery roads automatically brakes a spinning wheel - and thus allows the car to continue moving normally.

In terms of chassis and units, Sakura and eK Cross EV are unified among themselves, but their bodies are different. The length and width of the new products are 3395 and 1475 mm, respectively, and the height is 1655 mm. The wheelbase of the Sakura / eK Cross EV is 2495 mm, the front wheel track is 1300 mm, the rear is 1295 mm. Turning radius - 4.8 m.

The interiors of the cars also differ in design. The shaping of the front panel at Sakura is angular, a la techno, at eK Cross EV it is smooth and “friendly”.

Instrument panel digital, seven inches. The media system has a nine-inch tablet-type screen. Smartphone sync via Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Internal length, width and height - 2065, 1340 and 1270 mm, respectively.

Curb weight - 1060-1080 kg, depending on the configuration.

Energy consumption - 124 Wh / km.

The dimension of the wheels in the standard version is 155/65 R14, in the more expensive version - 165/55 R15.

Sales of the Nissan Sakura and Mitsubishi eK Cross EV in Japan will start in the summer of 2022, but they are already available for order. Nissan costs from 2,333,000 yen, Mitsubishi - from 2,398,000 yen.

Recall that the class of kei-cars, or in Japanese “kei-jidosha”, includes cars with a length and width of no more than 3.4 and 1.48 m, respectively, with an engine with a maximum power of not more than 64 hp. and a volume of not more than 660 cubic meters. cm (for internal combustion engines). In Japan, ordinary car owners must purchase or rent a parking space in the city, but kei car owners are exempt from this obligation.
