Mitsubishi Fuso Launches New Generation eCanter Electric Truck

Mitsubishi

The Japanese company Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus has introduced a new (second) generation of the eCanter electric truck in the specification for the EU market. The presentation of the car took place at the IAA-2022 commercial vehicle exhibition in Hannover (Germany) on September 18.

In the Old World, the novelty will be offered in a wide range of modifications with a gross weight of 4.25 to 8.55 tons, with six wheelbase options.

The exterior of the electric truck was refreshed in the same way as it was with the conventional diesel Kanter in 2020 - instead of large rectangular block headlights, narrowed L-shaped LED headlights were used, the bumper and radiator grille were replaced.

A fully charged battery allows the eCanter to travel up to 200 km. The basic equipment of the truck includes Active Brake Assist 5 (ABA5) and Sideguard Assist 1.0 - this is automatic emergency braking. There is a brake energy recovery function.

For the first time, an ePTO (Electric Power Take Off) power take-off is installed in the “electro-Canter” - thanks to it, special-purpose add-ons can be installed on the machine: for example, a dump truck or a truck crane.

In the specification for the Japanese domestic market, the second generation eCanter was presented on September 7th.

Compared to the predecessor model, the original rear drive axle is used here - with an integrated traction electric motor. This made it possible to reduce the curb weight of the truck and, as a result, slightly increase the carrying capacity and energy efficiency. The axle with an integrated motor is more compact than the previous design with a conventional axle, to which the torque from the engine is transmitted through the universal joints.

For the domestic market of Japan, the range of the new eCanter includes 28 modifications, for external ones - 80.

For light versions, the cabin has an overall width of 1700 mm, for heavier versions it is 2130 mm. The minimum wheelbase is 2500 mm, the maximum is 4750 mm.

Production of new items in Japan will start before the end of 2022, sales will begin in 2023.

Recall that the outgoing generation eCanter has been produced since 2017.

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus is 89.3% owned by the German concern Daimler Truck AG, 10.7% of the shares are owned by Mitsubishi Motors.
