Mitsubishi showed the new ASX for Europe

Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) has unveiled the second-generation Mitsubishi ASX compact crossover at a special online event. The car was created for the EU market and in fact is not completely new - it is only a badge-engineering modification of the Renault Captur II crossover, which has been produced since 2019. Fr om the original Renault, the new Mitsubishi outside differs only in emblems, grille and nameplates.

In the product catalog of the European division of Mitsubishi Motors, the conditional novelty will replace the familiar ASX offered in the EU with upgrades since 2010.

The fundamental difference between the two generations is explained in two sentences. The first ASX relies on Mitsubishi's own chassis, sharing suspension and powertrain parts with the third-generation Outlander. At the heart of the new ASX for the EU is the global CMF-B platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi concern. Recall that MMC joined the alliance in 2016. The unification of the model with its other mass machines has a positive effect on its cost and cost of ownership.

The overall length, width and height of the new ASX are 4228, 1797 and 1573 mm respectively, the wheelbase is 2639 mm. Thus, relative to the previous ASX, the car is 137 mm shorter, 27 mm wider and 67 mm lower. The wheelbase has been reduced by 31 mm.

The novelty will enter the EU market in five versions:

petrol 1.0 turbo with 91 hp and torque of 160 Nm + 6-speed manual gearbox,
petrol 1.3 turbo, 140 hp and 260 Nm + 6-speed manual gearbox,
petrol 1.3 turbo, 158 hp, 269 Nm + 7-speed preselective robotic gearbox,
hybrid installation with gasoline aspirated 1.6 + electric motor + battery with a capacity of 1.3 kWh, installation power - 141 hp, torque - 148 Nm,
hybrid installation with the possibility of recharging from the mains, gasoline aspirated 1.6 + electric motor + battery 10.5 kWh, installation power - 160 hp, torque - 144 Nm.
Conventional petrol variants have a trunk volume of 422 liters, a rechargeable hybrid - 265.

The interior of the novelty is also identical to the Renault Captur, minus emblems and some decorative elements. The basic equipment includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a media system with a 9.3-inch display.

The first generation ASX will leave only the EU market, the model remains in other places of its market presence - it will continue to be produced in parallel in Japan, China and Brazil.

The release of the European ASX of the second generation will be organized at the same facilities wh ere the Renault Captur is made - this is the Renault Valladolid plant in Spain. The price in the basic configuration has already been announced - 23,150 euros.
