Mitsubishi publicly unveils new Airtrek electric car

Mitsubishi

At the international auto show in Guangzhou (China), Mitsubishi Motors has publicly introduced a new electric car - a compact crossover Airtrek.

The novelty is the brainchild of a joint venture between GAC-Mitsubishi Motors, and the car was not created from scratch: Airtrek is a modified version of the GAC Aion V electric car produced since 2020. The Airtrek differs from it in the original design of the front and rear parts of the body. The front with an X-shaped front grille echoes other Mitsubishi models of the latest wave. At the rear, unusual lights attract attention - in the form of the letter Y laid on its side.

The length, width and height of the new Mitsubishi are 4630, 1920 and 1728 mm respectively, the wheelbase is 2830 mm. Ground clearance - 160 mm.

Two screens are installed in the Mitsubishi Airtrek cabin: the first serves as a digital dashboard, the second is responsible for media functions.

The Aion V is driven by a front-mounted 184 hp electric motor, it is powered by a 60 or 80 kWh battery, and the power reserve on a single charge reaches 400 or 600 km. Mitsubishi Airtrek will have exactly the same power plant.

The curb weight of the Airtrek is 1900 kg.

Sales of Mitsubishi Airtrek will start in 2022, the car will be produced at the facilities of GAC-MMC. Whether it is planned to offer it outside of China is still unknown.

The very name Airtrek is historical, as the first generation Outlander was called in the specification for the domestic Japanese market, it was produced in 2001-2005.
