Mitsubishi Motors on December 16 in Japan launched live sales of the new, second-generation Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid, and also boasted of order statistics: since October 28 (then the model was introduced), 6915 customers lined up for the car with a monthly plan of 1000.

The manufacturer revealed other statistics. 83% of buyers choose the 7-seater version of the crossover. The most popular color is white (44%), followed by white with a black roof (17%) and black (12%).

In Japan, the Outlander PHEV costs between 4,621,100 yen and 5,324,700 yen, depending on the trim level.

The hybrid retained the 2.4-liter petrol engine. Relative to its predecessor, its power has grown from 128 to 133 hp. It is much more important that the increase in electric motors is more solid: from 82 to 116 hp. front and from 95 to 136 rear (two electric motors are installed on the Outlander PHEV, one per axle). The capacity of the traction battery has increased from 13.8 to 20 kWh.

All of these improvements allow the crossover to run on pure electric propulsion most of the time in city driving. The range is now 87 km (83 km for the version with 20-inch wheels).
