Mini undergoes biggest redesign in seven years

Mini

BMW introduced a line of modernized Mini. Recall that the current generation Mini F55 / 56/57 has been produced since November 2013, the previous family update was carried out in 2018 - then they changed the exterior lighting, introduced twin turbocharged diesel engines into the engine range, and replaced the 6-band "automatic" with 7 - step "robot" with double clutch.

The current modernization has become more ambitious in terms of design. The entire family, which includes three- and five-door hatchbacks, as well as an electric car and a convertible, has undergone a deep restyling. The radiator grille with horizontal slats has been replaced with a hexagonal one with bold black trim. The openings in the grille have been reduced in size, and there is now a body-colored insert in its central part. The fog lamps have been removed from the corners of the bumper, and in their place are vertical slots for air intakes. An imitation of air vents appeared in the rear bumper, and the fog lamp with an incandescent lamp was replaced with a small LED element. The side mirrors are no longer oval, but more intricately shaped.

Inside, there's a new leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, a tablet-style digital display instead of the traditional instrument cluster, and some other features like a different button design.

In terms of technology, the change is this - the optional adaptive suspension can now increase stiffness by up to 50%. Thus, the car becomes even more responsive than before, and even more like a kart in behavior.

Engines and gearboxes remained the same. The standard One model is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 75 or 101 hp. In the performance of Cooper, the same engine is boosted to 136 hp. The sporty Cooper S has a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine with 178 hp, while the supersport John Cooper Works has a 2.0-liter turbo with 231 hp. Diesel engines from the Mini range were completely excluded back in 2019 (due to tougher economic standards). Gearboxes - a six-speed "mechanics", a seven-speed "robot" with two clutches or an eight-speed "automatic" (only for the John Cooper Works modification). The Mini Cooper SE electric hatchback retained the 184 hp engine. and a traction battery with a capacity of 32.6 kWh.

In Europe, the updated Mini will go on sale in March.
