The Mercedes-AMG SL roadster gets a cheaper version with rear-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter engine

Mercedes-Benz

Launched in November 2021, the Mercedes-AMG SL sports roadster of the R232 generation has got a new initial version - SL43, which was presented on the evening of April 5.

Until now, the SL R232 was offered only with twin-turbo V8 engines and all-wheel drive, while the SL43 is equipped with a single-turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and has rear-wheel drive.

Under the hood of a new modification of the roadster, a 2.0-liter Mercedes-AMG M139 gasoline unit is installed. It has an electric supercharger, in which the effect of a turbo-lag is excluded, that is, a failure during a set of revolutions due to the inertia of the turbine. This supercharger is powered by a 48-volt supply, which is also used for the starter-generator.

Engine power is 381 hp, torque - 480 Nm. The starter-generator is capable of adding an additional 14 hp for short periods. The engine is aggregated with a 9-speed Mercedes-AMG MCT robotic gearbox, the car has rear-wheel drive. The maximum speed of the roadster is 275 km / h, acceleration 0-100 km / h takes only 4.9 seconds. Because the 2.0-liter engine weighs so much less than the V8, the SL43's handling is said to be even better than the more expensive SL55 and SL63.

The start of sales of the SL43 is scheduled for May 2022.
