New S-Class recalled four months into production

Mercedes-Benz

The new generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223 began to be produced quite recently - in September 2020, but Daimler AG has already announced its first recall due to a factory defect. This is all the more surprising because the S-Class is traditionally considered the standard of quality and prestige among all production cars.

According to Business Insider, 1,400 new Mercedes-Benz S-Class are being recalled in Western markets because of the high risk of internal tie rod failures, which can lead to serious handling problems. Parts will be replaced free of charge. Daimler AG sent out letters to owners urging them to immediately visit branded service stations for repairs. The company explains that the batch of S-Class may have been fitted with internal tie rods of improper specification - they can not withstand the constant load of driving.

The component is delivered to the Mercedes-Benz factory pre-assembled and assembled ready-made, that is, it is the fault of the supplier.

The S-Class W223 is produced at Factory 56 in Sindelfingen (Germany), before the start of production of this model, 730 million euros were invested in the re-equipment of the plant.
