Mercedes-Benz introduced the new generation C-Class

Mercedes-Benz

The German concern Daimler AG held an online premiere of the new generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class W206. At the same time, two main body modifications are presented - a sedan and a station wagon (a coupe and a convertible will be released later).

Although the W206 is built from the ground up, this car can be seen as an evolution of the W205's predecessor, using the same modular MRA platform, but with an upgraded look. The design of the front four-link and rear multi-link suspensions has been optimized. It is claimed that compared to the W205, both handling and ride comfort are improved at the same time.

In the new generation, the C-Class has become larger - the length and width are 4751 and 1820 mm, respectively, which is 25 and 10 mm more than the W205. (It's no joke, the W206 is only 4 mm short of the W124 of the 1984 model, which was actually a car a class higher.) The wheelbase of the Tseshka reached 2865 mm (+65 mm). Lengthening the distance between the axles made it possible to make the interior noticeably more spacious, and in the station wagon body it also increased the trunk - up to 490 liters in normal condition and up to 1510 liters with the rear seats folded (+30 liters in both cases).

The car retained the classic proportions - with a long nose, a short front overhang and a cabin shifted back. The exterior is made in the latest iteration of the brand's corporate style - the leading edge of the nose has become lower, two longitudinal stampings have appeared on the hood panel itself. The waist line on the sidewalls, the “frowning” headlights and horizontal lights are reminiscent of those of the latest S-Class. Lanterns consist of two segments, internal mounted on the trunk lid. In all versions, the "tseshka" is now equipped with a panamericana radiator grille with a large three-beam star. The traditional chrome-plated version with slats on the W206 will not be offered - as a result, the standing emblem on the hood is also a thing of the past.

There are no more analog dials in the cabin, even as standard. The instrument cluster display is 10.25 inches as standard or 12.3 inches as an option. The screen of the media system is vertical, 9.5-inch, as an option - 11.9-inch.

The new generation C-Class will only be offered with hybrid systems. The entire line of gasoline and diesel engines has a built-in 48-volt starter-alternator, during acceleration it adds 20 hp. power and 200 Nm of torque, energy recovery occurs during braking. This superstructure saves fuel and reduces harmful emissions.

The gasoline range includes modifications C180, C200 and C300. The first two are equipped with 1.5-liter turbo engines with 170 and 204 hp. accordingly, the latter has a 2.0-liter unit with a return of 258 hp.

All diesel variants have an OM654 M turbo engine under the hood, but with varying degrees of forcing. This engine differs from the old OM 654 by a modified crankshaft, which increased the displacement from 1950 to 1992 cm3. In the C200d variant, the engine develops 163 hp, C220d - 200 hp, C300d - 265 hp.

The plug-in hybrid version of the C300e stands out, with a 2.0-liter M254 petrol turbo engine (204 hp), a 95 kW (129 hp) electric motor and a 25.4 kWh The total characteristics of the installation - 313 hp. and 550 Nm. Only on electric traction, this option can travel up to 100 km, the maximum speed in electric mode is 140 km/h. From an external station with a power of 55 kW, the battery can be charged in just 30 minutes.

4Matic all-wheel drive will be offered at an additional cost for the C200, C300 and C220d variants.

The sporty C63 AMG will be presented separately at a later date.

Sales of new items in Europe will start on March 30.
