Mercedes-Benz introduced a full-size electric crossover

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz continues to expand the range of models of the EQ sub-brand, under which it produces only pure electric vehicles: the next addition is the executive crossover EQS SUV.

EQS SUV is built on the EVA platform, it was originally created for the use of a purely electric power plant and, in principle, does not involve the use of internal combustion engines. Two serial products already rely on this chassis - the EQS electric liftback and the EQE sedan.

The new crossover has a body type five-door station wagon, overall length, width and height are 5125, 1959 and 1718 mm, respectively, wheelbase - 3210 mm. The layout of the cabin is five- or seven-seater. In the second case, the seats are installed in three rows according to the 2 + 3 + 2 scheme.

The exterior of the EQS SUV is made in the same style as other models of the EQ line - there is a short hood and smooth, minimalistic body shapes, subject to the goal of maximum streamlining. Where conventional cars have a grille, the EQS SUV has a black decorative panel that hides the radars, sensors and cameras of the autopilot system. Retractable door handles a la Tesla or Range Rover also attract attention.

In the front panel of the cabin there is the MBUX Hyperscreen media complex unified with the EQS liftback. It consists of three large displays united under a single piece of glass with a width of 141 cm. The first screen is a digital instrument cluster, the second is media, and the third is an entertainment system for the front passenger. The complex runs on an 8-core processor and has 24 GB of RAM. The second row of seats is made up of individual chairs, which can be adjusted in terms of backrest angle and length. If you move the seats forward by a maximum of 13 cm, then the boot volume will increase from 645 to 880 liters. With the second row fully folded, you get a cargo compartment with a volume of 2100 liters.

EQS SUV will be offered in three versions - EQS 450+, EQS 450 4Matic and EQS 580 4Matic. The first of them is rear-wheel drive, it means one electric motor on the rear axle, the other two also have a front electric motor, respectively, the drive is permanent all-wheel drive.

The engine power of the EQS 450+ is 265 kW (360 hp), the torque is 568 Nm, the power reserve on one battery reserve is 536-660 km.

The EQS 450 4Matic motors produce the same 265 kW (360 hp) in total, but much more torque - 800 Nm, range on a single charge - 507-613 km.

The top modification EQS 580 4Matic is equipped with engines with a total power of 400 kW (544 hp) and a torque of 858 Nm, a cruising range of 507-613 km.

The energy level of traction batteries from a 110 kW fast charging station can be replenished from 10 to 80% in 31 minutes.

The suspension of the novelty is independent with air springs as elastic elements. The chassis is fully steerable, the wheels of the rear axle at speeds up to 60 km / h turn in the opposite direction relative to the front - and thus improve maneuverability. Above 60 km/h, all four wheels turn in the same direction, which improves stability and control. The maximum rear wheel steering angle for the EQS SUV is 10 degrees.

For the crossover, you can order the AMG-Line sports styling package with a more aggressive front bumper.

Since the target market for the novelty is the United States, its release for the whole world will be organized at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Sales will start in the second half of 2022.
