McLaren reveals new supercar named after Ayrton Senna

British supercar manufacturer McLaren has shared photos and information about the new Senna supercar, named after the legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, who tragically died during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

The McLaren Senna is designed specifically for racing on tracks, but the model is certified for driving on public roads. The body of the car was carefully worked out in a wind tunnel, so it features a large number of holes and elements that improve streamlining and downforce. In particular, a huge rear wing is installed at the stern of the McLaren Senna and a double diffuser is used under the bottom.

Under the hood of the Senna is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from a McLaren 720S. Its power and torque are slightly increased and reach 789 hp. and 800 Nm, respectively. At the same time, the dry weight of the 720S is reduced by 220 kg to just 1198 kg, thus achieving a power-to-weight ratio of 660 hp/ton.

The Senna package cannot be called ascetic - the car is equipped with a multimedia system, a rear-view camera, an audio system, a folding instrument cluster and the like.

Significant weight savings have been achieved through a new patented technology for the manufacture of carbon parts - for example, the weight of the front wing has decreased from 2.5 kg to 650 grams, without losing strength and reliability.

The dynamic characteristics of the new supercar McLaren has not yet disclosed, but, according to rumors, the Senna accelerates from standstill to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds. The manufacturer also promises exemplary handling - for its tuning, the company attracted former F1 racer Bruno Senna, who is Ayrton's nephew.

The official presentation of the McLaren Senna will take place at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018. Production of the model in the UK will start in the second half of next year. In total, it is planned to assemble 500 such machines at a price of $1 million for each. There are already pre-orders for the entire edition. Part of the profits from the sports car will be transferred to the accounts of the Brazilian charity Instituto Ayrton Senna, which is run by Vivian Senna, the sister of the famous racer.
