McLaren is preparing for the premiere of a new hybrid supercar with a twin-turbo V6 at the heart

The British company McLaren is going to hold "one of the most significant in its history" premiere in the first quarter of 2021 - a hybrid supercar that will implement advanced technologies. As part of the announcement, McLaren published photos of the pre-production prototype of the novelty (there is no information about its name yet), which is currently undergoing road tests.

The model will receive a bi-turbo hybrid V6, it will replace the 4.0-liter V8 engine with dual supercharging. According to the company's CEO Mike Fluitt, the upcoming novelty will be the quintessence of everything McLaren has achieved to date, and this is not about updating the current line, but about the next generation car.

McLaren chief engineer Steve White elaborates that the company's hybrid powertrain development department has grown tremendously over the past couple of years, as it includes world-class experts.

In addition to the new power plant, the power of which is now kept secret, McLaren has got a new carbon fiber chassis Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), designed with the possibility of installing a high-voltage battery.

The British also announced that they would soon stop producing cars of the junior line of the Sports Series, its ancestor was, recall, the 570S coupe, which premiered in 2015. The hybrid model will sit a notch above those cars, and the Super Series (720S, 720S Spider and 765 LT) will likely become the base model after that.
