McLaren continues to expand its lineup. Now the British company has introduced an unusual Elva supercar. Not only does it not have a roof, but it also lacks a windshield. The car is positioned as a track car.
The McLaren Elva will join the Senna and Speedtail models in the brand's flagship supercar lineup. The novelty was not only the first fully open car in the history of the brand, but also the lightest.
The name Elva is a reference to the racing McLarens of the 60s: McLaren-Elva M1A (Mk I), M1B (Mk II) and M1C (Mk III). They also did not have a windshield: its functions were taken over by a small transparent shield. But the new model does not have it either!
The British calculated the aerodynamics in such a way that the driver and passenger could be in the car without helmets. For this, the Active Air Management System (AAMS) technology was developed, which, using a system of moving elements, directs air over the heads of riders. The system configuration automatically adjusts to the current speed. When driving slowly, AAMS is automatically disabled. At the same time, customers who do not trust fashionable technologies will be able to order a car with a conventional windshield.
At the heart of the supercar is a carbon monocoque. The car is powered by a 4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. Its return is estimated at 815 hp. and 800 Nm. With the help of a 7-speed robotic transmission, torque is delivered to the wheels of the rear axle. The supercar is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in less than three seconds, from 0 to 200 km / h in 6.7.
The car uses carbon-ceramic brakes with front discs with a diameter of 390 mm. The same setup was used on the McLaren Senna, however, titanium calipers were developed specifically for the Elva, which in total saved 1 kg of weight. The total mass of the car is not called, although the novelty is declared as the lightest model of the company.
Elva will have options that are unlikely to affect the speed performance of the car: you can order personalized nameplates in 18-carat gold or platinum. Wealthy customers will also be offered a 24-carat gold heat shield for the engine compartment.
McLaren plans to produce 399 Elva units. The base price is £1,425,000. The first supercars will be released at the end of 2020.
