Mazda launches new flagship: CX-90 luxury crossover over five meters long

Mazda Motor continues to transform itself into a premium brand: another important milestone on this thorny path is the premiere of the brand new full-size crossover CX-90.

The target for the novelty is the North American market, which is why it was presented in the specification for this continent.

The CX-90 is based on a modified version of the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture platform, which debuted in 2022 on the midsize CX-60. This chassis uses the classic layout of the units, that is, the longitudinal engine and the main rear-wheel drive. Among other things, the decision made it possible to endow the CX-90 with classic body proportions - with a long nose, a short front overhang and a cabin shifted back.

In the basic configuration, the CX-90 has an inline 6-cylinder 3.3-liter gasoline turbo engine with 340 hp. and a torque of 500 Nm, it is combined with an 8-speed automatic gearbox with a torque converter. To save fuel and further reduce harmful emissions, an electric motor is used between the internal combustion engine and the gearbox, that is, a “mild hybrid” type system.

An alternative would be a PHEV modification (a hybrid with the ability to recharge the battery from an external network). In its power plant, a 2.5-liter gasoline turbo engine is assisted by an electric motor, the total power is 323 hp, the torque is 500 Nm. It also uses an 8-speed "automatic". The electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 17.8 kWh.

In all versions, the standard equipment includes an all-wheel drive system, as well as a KPC complex - it forcibly brakes the inner rear wheel when cornering and thus improves the car's handling at high speeds.

Dimensions CX-90 Mazda press service has not yet made public, according to preliminary information, the length of the car is about 5.1 m, it will only be offered with a three-row interior layout for seven or eight seats.

Inside, luxurious materials and a 12.3-inch media system display are standard.

Sales of new items in the US will start approximately in the middle of 2023 - closer to this date, all technical details will be revealed.
