Mazda has postponed the premiere of the new Mazda6

Mazda

Mazda Motor has suspended work on the next generation Mazda6, there is a high risk that it will be canceled altogether. This conclusion follows from an interview with Mazda Motor Europe Development Director Joachim Kunz to the British Autocar.

The top manager did not specify whether it is a question of the model as a whole or only of its European version.

Earlier it was reported that in the new generation Mazda6 will radically change its format - it will become a premium sedan with a classic layout, that is, with a longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive. The new "six" should be based on the Skyactiv Multi Solution Scalable Architecture platform, already used for the CX-60 mid-size crossover.

According to Kunz, the revision of plans for the Mazda6 is due to the fact that the company's resources are aimed at expanding the range of crossovers, for which demand continues to grow.

“The crossover trend continues, including for Mazda. Crossovers are what sells best, ”the Autocar edition quotes the words of a Mazda top manager.

Today, the range of Mazda crossovers in the European Union includes the CX-30 and CX-5 models, as well as the MX-30 electric car.

The harbinger of the new Mazda6 was the spectacular Vision Coupe concept sedan, presented at the 2017 Tokyo International Motor Show.

The current Mazda6 of the GJ1 / GL generation has been produced since 2012. It relies on a front-wheel drive platform with a transverse engine.
