Mazda Motor, through its European division, on January 9 announced the imminent premiere of a new version of the MX-30 crossover - it will have a sequential hybrid installation with a gasoline rotary piston engine in the composition. The rotary piston engine is not connected to the wheels, but will be used to recharge the traction battery through a generator.
The premiere of the upcoming novelty will take place on January 13.
On the occasion of the announcement of the rotary-piston MX-30, Mazda published a photo of the badge that will be used on cars with this type of internal combustion engine - its configuration is inspired by the appearance of the rotor.
Recall that the Mazda MX-30 has been produced since 2020. The model is based on the compact CX-30. Currently available with a mild hybrid, 2.0-litre petrol unit (145 hp) and 24-volt starter-alternator, or pure electric (145 hp engine). , battery capacity - 35 kWh, power reserve - 200-250 km).
Mazda was one of the few automotive companies in the world that mass-produced rotary piston engines. The first model with a rotary piston engine was the Mazda Cosmo coupe, which appeared in 1967, the last was the RX-8, which was discontinued in 2012. The advantages of a rotary piston engine over conventional piston engines are low vibration, high power density, light weight, small dimensions, fewer parts. Disadvantages - faster wear of rubbing parts and seals, tendency to overheat, increased fuel consumption at low speeds, low maintainability.
