Mazda has a premium crossover with a very stylish look

Mazda

March 8, Mazda Motor held the world premiere of the long-awaited new product - the mid-size crossover CX-60. The model complements the brand's product line and does not replace any of the already produced cars.

"Sixty" is fundamentally different from other Mazda crossovers. Firstly, it is based on the new Skyactiv Multi Solution Scalable Architecture (SMSSA) chassis with a classic layout, that is, a longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive. The rest of the brand's off-road vehicles rely on inexpensive platforms with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive. Secondly, from a purely fashion point of view, the CX-60 will stand one step above other Mazda cars and will be positioned as a premium product.

The length, width, height of the novelty are 4745, 1890 and 1670 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 2870 mm. The exterior of the CX-60 exudes a sporty character, which is defined by the expressive proportions of the body - a long hood, a cab set back and a short front overhang. The intricate plastic of the sidewalls and the brutal design of the bow with a huge radiator grille and deliberately small block headlights also attract attention.

The CX-60 line will include three engine modifications, but so far only one of them has been revealed - with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) power plant. The CX-60 PHEV system includes a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, an electric motor, an 8-speed automatic transmission and a traction lithium-ion battery. ICE power and torque - 189 hp and 261 Nm, respectively, the electric motor - 136 hp. and 250 Nm, combined indicators - 327 hp. and 500 Nm. The capacity of the battery pack is 17.8 kWh.

The CX-60 PHEV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, with a top speed limited to 200 km/h in normal mode and 140 km/h in pure electric mode. The CX-60 PHEV's average gas mileage is just 1.5L/100km, with the engine off and the battery on a full charge, the car can travel up to 63km. The drive is complete.

Inside, the novelty has five seats, a horizontal architecture of the front panel, a digital instrument panel and a tablet-type multimedia screen. The diagonal of both screens is 12.3 inches.

The crossover weighs 2055-2070 kg, depending on the configuration, and this is dry weight - excluding the driver and with an empty gas tank.

The battery can be recharged from a station with a capacity of up to 7.8 kW.

Gasoline and diesel options will follow later. The first will have a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine of the Skyactiv-X family, the second will have a 3.3-liter Skyactiv-D. In both cases, in addition to the internal combustion engine, a 48-volt starter-alternator will be used, which helps to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The target markets for the CX-60 are Europe and Japan, but not North America. In the United States and Canada, they are already selling a similar-sized, but less complex crossover CX-50 - with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive.

The CX-60 will cost between 52,000 and 70,000 euros in the European Union, depending on the configuration, sales of new items will start in 2023.
