Remember Japanese Mitsuoka Rock Star? This is a Mazda MX-5 converted with a new plumage to look like a classic 1962 Chevrolet Corvette. Another tuning version of the MX-5 in retro style is on the way - it is being prepared by Hurtan from Spain.
At one of the test sites in Europe, a camouflaged prototype of an unusual sports car was photographed - with large round headlights, a vertical grille and sagging on the wings, referring to the cars of the 40s. This is an antique MX-5, a project by Hurtan.
The basis for tuning was Mazda with a hard convertible top. There is still little information about the Spaniards' project, but, judging by the characteristic doorways, the power frame of the body is preserved here from the MX-5, only the outer body panels have been replaced. Most likely, they are molded from plastic - this is a normal way for small-scale alteration, since dies for the manufacture of plastic parts are ten times cheaper than dies for the production of steel panels.
In terms of the positioning of the headlights and the radiator grille, as well as the wings, the brainchild of the Hurtan resembles the prestigious small-scale cars of the German Weismann.
According to unofficial information, Hurtan will not touch the technical stuffing of the MX-5. That is, its conversions will be offered with gasoline engines of 1.5 and 2.0 liters with a capacity of 132 or 184 hp. Gearbox - 6-speed manual or 6-band "automatic". Rear drive.
Unusual tuning will be presented in the first quarter of 2021.
Founded in 1991, Hurtan has been building custom-made retro-style cars throughout its history with its own design, referring to the 1950s and 1960s.
