Daimler AG is surprised that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has Mercedes-Benz sedans and limousines. These cars were lit up during the recent visits of the leader of the DPRK to Vladivostok, Singapore and Hanoi. The German concern does not know where Eun could buy them, since Daimler AG has not been selling its cars in the DPRK for 15 years. This is reported by TASS with reference to the representative of the concern Silke Mockert.
Kim Jong-un's motorcade uses Mercedes-Benz S-Class W221 sedans and limousines and a Maybach 62 limousine. UN Security Council resolutions prohibit the sale of luxury goods in the DPRK.
“Daimler AG has not traded with North Korea for over 15 years, strictly adhering to US and European Union regulations,” Silke told TASS. “In order to prevent deliveries [of vehicles] to the DPRK or to North Korean embassies, Daimler AG has introduced massive export controls.”
The company noted that, apparently, the DPRK authorities bought these cars used in one of the third countries. Tracking and influencing such transactions is almost impossible.
