Maserati, the Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, is moving into a new segment, the SUV. A few years ago, Porsche successfully took this step with the release of its current bestseller, the Cayenne crossover. Moreover, the success of the Cayenne was so overwhelming that not only the second generation of the model was not long in coming, but the more compact cross-model Cajun is also on the way.
The creation of Maserati will receive the well-known name Kubang: back in 2003, at the Detroit Auto Show, the Italians already showed the concept of a crossover with this name. According to the developers, the new model is unique: only in Kubang the driving pleasure and the atmosphere of luxury are comparable to those offered by expensive luxury sports cars.
The car is being built in close collaboration with Jeep, but the Italian automaker says the key elements of the project will be exclusively from Maserati: we are talking about the engine, styling, suspension, brakes, handling and dynamics.
It is officially announced that Kubang will receive an 8-speed gearbox, and unofficially it is reported that the assembly of the car will take place in Detroit on the same conveyor as the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
