Maserati boss: electric cars are not for us

Maserati

Maserati cars have long been famous for their powerful gasoline engines and impressive dynamic performance, and we are not necessarily talking about racing prototypes. Now in the US, Western Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, electric units are in vogue, and the Italians face the difficult task of not losing customers in the current realities.

Caradvice reports that while other luxury brands are already announcing all-electric vehicles, Maserati is not going down that path. According to the head of the American division of the brand Al Gardner, we should not expect the appearance of all-electric models in the near future, since Maserati is supposed to evoke emotions, and electric cars are not capable of producing an impressive sound.

However, already in 2022, the brand’s lineup will be significantly revised: an Alfieri sports car will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2020, a new mid-size crossover will also be released, and current cars will acquire hybrid power plants – the Italians are not going to refuse them at all. That would be strange, given the experience sister brand Ferrari has gained in Formula 1, where its hybrid engines are currently performing well.

Just a couple of years ago, Maserati sales figures in the US, Europe and China were at a stable level, but last year the Italians recorded a decline of 19.7%. In some markets, Maserati has even more serious problems: for example, in Australia, the brand sold only 149 cars in the first four months, which is 45.5% less than in the same period last year.
