The British company Ineos Automotive has revealed the interior of its first-born Grenadier 4x4 frame SUV.
The interior of the promising model is made in full accordance with its ideology of a utilitarian and universal car.
The front panel has a T-shaped architecture with a wide center console. The shaping is very simple, with even planes and almost right angles. Secondary functions are controlled by physical buttons and switches, and they are grouped based on their tasks and highlighted with graphic borders. Some of the buttons are even placed on the overhead console. This design is inspired by the cockpits of aircraft and yachts.
The switches are made two-contact and deliberately large - for the sake of endurance and to make it convenient to operate them without taking off the gloves.
Grenadier is equipped with a 12.3-inch screen - this is both the instrument panel and the media system. The dashboard is arranged in the center for the sake of greater unification of right- and left-hand drive modifications.
For reliability, switching media functions is carried out using a rotary knob, as in BMW iDrive. Also, for simplicity and reliability, the number of microprocessors has been reduced by 2/3 relative to modern cars. Another feature is that in Ineos the navigator works only when synchronized with a smartphone such as Apple or Android, that is, there is, in fact, no navigation system in the car, this is also a deliberate simplification.
Like the exterior, the interior of the Grenadier was created under the guidance of designer Toby Ecuyer, who actually hadn’t been involved in cars before - he specialized in yachts and architecture.
Recall that the Grenadier 4x4 was shown outside exactly a year ago. The basic body modification of the car is a five-door station wagon, but the full family will also include a three-door and a four-door pickup truck.
The design of the car is as simple as possible, in the spirit of dual-purpose SUVs. There are flat glass and body panel surfaces. The front with a bonnet cover, stamping along the sidewalls, round headlights and universal-type lamps, a radiator grille with horizontal slats, a roof with additional windows, windows and general proportions are reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender. The length of the Grenadier is about 5 m.
Ineos Grenadier 4x4 is planned to be equipped with purchased engines - 6-cylinder petrol and diesel 3.0-liter "row" from BMW. They will be mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. The chassis is made according to the most classic off-road canons - there are continuous bridges, which means dependent suspensions. Springs are applied all around.
Serial production of the model will begin in 2022 and will be carried out at the plant in Ambach, France. This enterprise was purchased from Daimler AG - it used to make Smart minicars.
The grenadier commissioned by Ineos is being developed by the Canadian-Austrian company Magna-Steyr.
In the Old World, the price of a car will start from 45,000 euros. The break-even point for the project is the sale of 25,000 SUVs per year.
The project of the new car is fully financed by the chemical company Ineos, the initiator of the Grenadier is its owner, Sir Jim Ratcliff (Jim Ratcliff). Ineos has nothing to do with Jaguar Land Rover.
