Range Rover is one of the most popular tuning cars. There are dozens of independent companies around the world offering styling packages for it. But Jaguar Land Rover believes that tuning shops parasitize on their cars, offering products of very dubious quality. The British company intends to offer a high-quality factory alternative to third-party tuning.
“It's very easy to take a finished product and stick a little spoiler or something on it, but I'd like to see a car that they would build themselves from scratch. Tuners use the result of our work to earn a lot of money,” said Gerry McGovern (Gerry McGovern), director of design Jaguar Land Rover, in an interview with AutoCar.
He noted that the company intends to develop a subsidiary of Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), opened in 2016, which will offer a quality alternative to third-party tuning. According to the forecasts of the company's marketers, SVO will be able to take up to a third of the tuning market for cars manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover. The division will be refining both the exterior and the interior.
“With the help of SVO, we will force tuners out of the market. The possibilities that we have are much wider than theirs. And the quality is much higher,” said McGovern.
According to JLR's design director, the first model to feature a wide range of SVO upgrades will be the new Range Rover Velar sport utility vehicle (which will go on sale this summer).
