Lamborghini reveals what supercars will look like in 2040

Lamborghini

The Italian company Lamborghini presented the Terzo Millennio (“Third Millennium”) concept supercar, on the example of which it showed how it sees its products in 2040.

The development of the Lamborghini prototype was carried out jointly with the world's leading technical university - the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MTI). The body of the Terzo Millennio has been meticulously designed in terms of aerodynamics. The many holes and “voids” are noteworthy - the designers were not bound by the layout, since the concept is equipped with four electric motor-wheels.

Carbon nanotubes are used in the design of Lamborghini Terzo Millennio batteries, which made it possible to make them more compact and to abandon the traditional placement of batteries under the floor - here they are built between the walls of the body's load-bearing elements. The body itself is made of carbon fiber. The design is lightweight (the Italians do not give specific figures).

The problem of carbon fiber parts is that microcracks often form on them during operation, which can ultimately lead to the destruction of the part. Terzo Millennio is equipped with a self-diagnosis system for cracks. If damage is detected, the system itself fills the cracks with “healing chemicals” that restore the structure of the part. According to Lamborghini, this solution allows to further expand the scope of carbon fiber - to use it in loaded areas with "high fatigue".

Power, top speed and acceleration figures for the Lamborghini Terzo Millennio have not been released. But it is noted that soon the solutions incorporated in the concept may become serial.
