Kia's new electric car caught fire after an accident

Kia

A video of the fire of the new Kia EV6 electric car was posted on social networks. The incident took place in Budapest (Hungary). Note that sales of the EV6 in the European Union started quite recently - in September 2021.

The circumstances of the incident remain a mystery: the footage shows that the front of the electric car is completely engulfed in flames. It is assumed that this was preceded by a collision of EV6 with a concrete fender.

Accidents at high speed for electric vehicles are dangerous - due to deformation, a lithium-ion traction battery can ignite. If the Kia EV6 instance presented in the video is all-wheel drive, then a damaged front electric motor or a broken power cable could become the source of fire (depending on the version, the voltage is 522-697 V).

According to the Hungarian edition, the EV6 driver was taken to the hospital with injuries.

Note that in January, the insurance aggregator AutoinsuranceEZ published a study based on statistics collected for 2021 by the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), according to which electric vehicles ignite less often than hybrids and cars with internal combustion engines (in relative terms).
