Kia held the world premiere of a new development - a full-size crossover with a purely electric power plant EV9. This model is built on the E-GMP modular platform, which, in principle, does not involve the use of internal combustion engines and is already used for serial Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, as well as Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60.
EV9 is the largest car based on E-GMP. In general terms, the exterior of the car repeats the concept car of the same name, presented in 2021. A two-volume profile, a “floating” roof, sharp edge-stamping on the sidewalls have been preserved. But there were some simplifications that are inevitable when adapting a design project to technological and certification requirements for production cars: headlights and lanterns are made larger in area, window frames and handles (albeit retractable) appeared in the doors.
In the cabin - a three-row layout of seats according to the 2 + 2 + 2 scheme, that is, a total of six seats. The second row seats can be rotated 90 or 180 degrees: in the first case, boarding and disembarking is facilitated, in the second, a cozy “gazebo” can be arranged in the cabin.
The digital instrument panel and the media system screen are combined into a single cluster, each of the displays has a diagonal of 12.3 inches. Between them perched a screen of additional information with a diagonal of 5 inches.
Technical details about the new product will tell on March 20. While it is known that the 5-meter car will be offered with front or all-wheel drive. In the first case, the motor develops 200 hp. power and 339 Nm of torque. The second uses two motors (one per axle) with 400 hp. and 651 Nm. The power reserve on one full battery charge varies from 354 to 467 km. The more powerful version accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.2 seconds.
The target market for the Kia EV9 is North American.
