Troubles haunt 20-year-old David Reiss, a resident of Denver (Colorado, USA), who, due to the actions of intruders, lost two Kia Sportage crossovers within a month.

According to CBS4, in October the student bought a 2018 Kia Sportage crossover, but a few weeks later his car was stolen from a parking lot located near the house. Despite ongoing video surveillance, the police were unable to find the vehicle.

The young man liked the South Korean crossover so much that five days later he decided to buy another one to replace the stolen one. The second copy was also taken away - from a closed parking lot near Reiss's place of work. Now the student says that he probably should have opted for another model, but at that moment he was sure that the probability of a second theft was negligible. Reiss now drives a rental car and is already thinking about buying a third, but this time he wants to buy a Volkswagen, although he still likes Kia.

Local police commander Rick Kiley said that "there are now economic problems in the region, traditionally, when they arise, the crime rate rises." He also noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, many people work at home, as a result, cars stand in parking lots for a long time. This, in turn, draws the attention of car thieves to them.

The data of the policeman is confirmed by official statistics. This year, 6,394 cars were stolen in Denver, about a third more than in 2019.
