Hyundai will also stop using V8 on its cars

Hyundai

South Korean premium brand Genesis (subsidiary of Hyundai Motor) will stop installing the V8 engine in its cars as early as the second half of 2021. The new Genesis G90 executive sedan, even in the top versions, will cost a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6.

The 5.0-liter engine of the Tau family will retire. It appeared in 2010 and was first produced with multipoint injection (MPi). Since 2012, the V8 has been equipped with direct fuel injection (GDi), and in 2015 it was slightly modified in terms of intake, gas distribution, vibration / noise levels and so on.

5.0 Tau GDi (G8BE) develops 425 hp power and 520 Nm of torque, the unit is combined with an eight-speed "automatic" and is installed on the Genesis G90, G80 and Kia K9 sedans. Previously, the motor was used on Hyundai Equus and Genesis.

According to the South Korean edition of AutoDaum, the G8 will be replaced by a 3.5-liter V6 Smartstream FR G3.5T (G6DS) with twin turbocharging. It produces 380 hp. and 540 Nm, that is, slightly inferior to the V8 in terms of power and slightly ahead in terms of traction. However, in the "six" the torque shelf extends from 1500 to 4500 rpm, while the V8 peaks at 5000.

The G6DS is already installed on recent Genesis models: the G80 sedan, the GV70 compact crossover and the mid-size GV80.

The Genesis G90 has been in production since 2015. In Russia, a car costs from 6,430,000 rubles. With a 5.0-liter V8 - at least 7,710,000.

Hyundai Motor isn't the only car company moving away from V8s. Needless to say, if there is not a single “eight” left on the Toyota Land Cruiser 300.
