Hyundai Kona new generation received a purely electric option

Hyundai Motor has unveiled a new modification of the second-generation Kona compact crossover - a pure electric car. Recall that the Kona II was shown in December 2022, but so far the car has existed only in gasoline and hybrid versions.

The Kona Electric is equipped with a 114.6 kW (156 hp) or 160 kW (214 hp) front-mounted electric motor. The torque in both cases is 255 Nm. Two variants of traction batteries are offered - with a capacity of 48.4 kWh or 65.4 kWh, the cruising range on one full charge varies from 342 to 490 km. It takes only 41 minutes to replenish the energy reserve from 10% to 80% if you use a "quick station", according to a press release.

The Kona Electric battery has a preheating function so that the energy supply does not drop sharply during winter operation. The crossover also has a heated hatch for the charging connector - it works at temperatures up to minus 30 degrees Celsius.

The electric Kona is also equipped with the i-Pedal system, it allows you to control both acceleration and deceleration with the accelerator pedal: press it - the car goes, release it - the brakes are automatically applied (the brake lights are lit). This feature is copied from Nissan's e-Pedal.

In the parking lot, external devices can be powered from the traction battery.

The overall length, width and height of the Hyundai Kona Electric are 4355, 1825 and 1575 mm, the wheelbase is 2660 mm.

The new Hyundai Kona Electric will be offered in South Korea, the European Union and North America. The start of sales is scheduled for the end of summer.

Recall that the range of fuel Kona II includes two gasoline versions - with engines of 1.6 and 2.0 liters. The first is turbocharged, 195 hp, the second is atmospheric, 147 hp. The hybrid version has a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated + electric motor, the total power is 141 hp. All-wheel drive is offered only for the turbo version, all other versions are front-wheel drive.
