After a series of teasers and leaks, Hyundai Motor finally held a full-fledged show of the Elantra N sports sedan. The regular CN7 generation Elantra debuted in March 2020, the N Line sports modification with a more powerful 1.6-liter turbo engine in July of the same year. Elantra N became the crown of the line.
Distinguishing the full-fledged N-version from the N Line is not difficult. The novelty received an original front bumper partially painted in black with enlarged air intakes. At the back, two large-section exhaust pipes and a rear wing on the trunk lid draw attention to themselves (the N Line has only a tiny spoiler). A red “skirt” is missing along the bottom of the body.
Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 280 hp. In N Grin Shift mode, the recoil briefly jumps up to 289 hp. The only possible transmission is an eight-speed "robot" with two "wet" clutches. Drive — only the front. Acceleration time 0-100 km / h is 5.3 seconds.
The sedan is equipped with an electronic imitation limited slip differential. Another innovative feature of the Elantra N is the WRC-style integrated drive axle that integrates the drive shaft, wheel hub and bearing. This design allowed to reduce weight by 1.7 kg and improve traction.
To increase the rigidity of the body, spacers are used. Hyundai Elantra N has electronically controlled shock absorbers. The double compound trailing arm bushing should improve ride and handling while minimizing noise and vibration.
The front axle is fitted with 360mm brake discs and pads made from Hyundai's proprietary high-friction material. The driver can choose the sound of the exhaust with both the Variable Exhaust Valve System dampers and the simulated N Sound Equalizer, which gives the turbo engine the tone of its TCR touring car brethren.
Hyundai Elantra N will first appear on sale in South Korea, expansion to foreign markets will begin at the end of 2021. The price has not yet been published.
