General Motors plans to introduce the next-generation Hummer SUV on April 3, the announcement was posted on the Facebook page of GM brand GMC.
Recall that the revival of the legendary Hummer brand began with the premiere of a 1000-horsepower electric pickup truck on the GM BT1 platform in October 2020. True, now Hummer is not considered a separate brand, but a model of the GMC brand.
The new SUV will be built on the basis of a pickup truck, the difference will be a two-volume body of a universal type. The car does not yet have its own name, on the FB page it is called succinctly - Hummer EV SUV.
Note that the mockup of an SUV “lit up” in the background in one of the promotional videos dedicated to the pickup truck. The car will have a three-row interior layout and removable roof panels.
Serial production of the Hummer electric SUV will start in 2022.
The Hummer pickup is currently only available for order, live sales will begin in the fall of 2021. Recall that it is offered with electric motors with a total capacity of 800 hp. or 1100 hp
The Hummer brand was created in 1992, when the defense concern AM General decided to make a civilian version of the Humvee army all-terrain vehicle. In 1998, GM bought the rights to the Hummer from AM General in order to produce a whole line of SUVs under it. In addition to the Hummer H1 model based on the original Humvee, GM launched the H2 (full-size) and H3 (mid-size) models on its platforms in the early 2000s. All of them had an angular "masculine" design in the same style. Due to the jump in oil prices in 2008, the demand for Hummers at the end of the 2000s seriously sank. In addition, in the US, emissions standards were tightened, under which GM considered it pointless to adapt multi-liter engines. In 2010, the division was closed, but the promoted name came in handy 10 years later.
