The Hummer SUV has reappeared in the General Motors product range - in the new incarnation it is a full-size electric mastodon of the GMC brand. Its online presentation took place late in the evening on April 3.
The new Hummer EV SUV model is built on the basis of a pickup truck introduced in October 2020. The machines are based on the GM BT1 carrier platform with a “flat” design. Up to the rear fenders, the electric trucks are completely unified, the stern of the EV SUV is original, it forms a station wagon-type body. The full-size spare wheel, suspended from the hinged tailgate, looks amazing: its frame and hinges must have a fair margin of safety, because the wheels of the new Hammer are 22-inch, very heavy. In general, the style of the car echoes the famous Hummer H2, produced in 2002-2009.
The interior of the new SUV is designed for five adults - and this is with an overall length of 5 m. The interior decoration does not differ from the original pickup truck, there is a deliberately angular architecture of the front panel and two large screens: 12.3-inch is the instrument cluster, 13.4 is the display media systems. The basic equipment includes the Super Cruise semi-autopilot system.
The power plant of the Hummer EV SUV includes three electric motors - one in front, two in the rear, permanent full drive, total power - 610 Nm (830 hp), peak torque - 15,592 Nm. Note that a higher return was declared for a pickup truck - 1000 hp. The motors are powered by an 800-volt Ultium battery. However, in the basic configuration, the battery voltage is 400 volts. The base EV SUV has a range of 400 km on a single charge, while the expensive version has about 500 km. The "crab mode" has also been preserved - when it is activated, all wheels are directed in one direction, which allows the car to move diagonally.
Sales of the Hummer EV SUV in North America will start in 2023 at a price of $90,000, in 2024 a cheaper twin-engine version will be released at a price of $80,000. The possibility of the model appearing in other markets is not specified.
