On October 21, the GMC Hummer EV, a new electric pickup truck, was introduced in the USA. And a day later, all the cars were sold out a year in advance!
Formally, we can say that the Hummers were not sold out, but booked, because so far you can only place a pre-order that requires a deposit of $100. It is possible that a significant part of those who issued the novelty fell on speculators, who will subsequently resell their turn.
The first deliveries of the Hummer EV are scheduled for autumn 2021. The price of a car in the special configuration of Edition 1 is from $112,595. During 2022-2024, more affordable modifications will enter the market, including those with two engines (instead of three). The most “simple” option is planned to be offered for $79,995.
Recall that the Hammer is built on the new BT1 platform, which was originally created for the use of an electric power plant and is designed for light trucks and full-size SUVs. It uses three electric motors with a total power of 1000 hp. and a torque of 15,592 Nm. They are powered by an 800-volt Ultium battery, providing a range of up to 560 km.
By the way, during the presentation, the manufacturer showed the work of the so-called Crab Mode. Unlike crabs, Hummer will not be able to move completely sideways, but diagonally. To do this, he turns all four wheels in one direction and starts moving. This feature can come in handy in tight spaces.
